It was a special show for sure. the sound captured in this recording is completely amazingly beautifully wonderfully spectacularly beautiful wonderful amazing and spectacular. These guys are playing in Grateful Dead form vintage 1972. Not comparing the two in any way but that they are playing to the awesome heights of their powers. I saw the Bridges and Royce Hall shows the following week. Even an 'off night' like bridges (ryan's throat was a bit sore though he sang and performed spectacularly nonetheless) the show was played at a very high level. The first Royce show was tip top as well. Per haps the consistently best of the three. but this san diego show is special. it has a razor sharp edge to it. you can tell they love playing here. Has there been a live band with the prolific songs, musicians, transcendant performance, and mojo like this since the boys? I can't say enough about this show. I love the Clifton Park '05, the '06 Ludwigshafen, and the 6/28/07 shows, and this one is worthy of following any of them. the growth/evolution of this band, and especially of Ryan Adams is extraordinary, and he is really making a push to be remembered in the lineage of Dylan, Parsons, Van Zandt, Garcia, Buckley.
